Kitchen Stools For Easy Sitting

There are only a few things to consider when purchasing kitchen stools for your home. You have to think about size, location, materials, will they swivel and so on. They work great for kitchen counter tops when you want to eat on the fly and don't have time to set a table. They save space as well as time and can add a fun element to your kitchen area. Match up the style of your kitchen to a style of kitchen stools and you're set.

Counter Height Stools

Don't let comfort get overlooked though when choosing out a style. There's nothing more annoying than a stool that makes you squirm constantly when trying to find your comfort zone. Height is another important factor to consider. If they are too short you may not reach the counter top and you will look kind of silly sitting there with your chin on the counter. You also don't want them to be too tall. You need enough leg room to move around comfortably. Shoot for about twelve inches of legroom from the bottom of the counter. Fill your counter area with enough stools so that you can seat everyone in the house but also so that there is enough room between each stool so you're not touching.

Counter Height Stools

If you are considering a table area instead of using your counter top most kitchen stools come in a set with a table. A table and a set of four stools is the usual set up. You may have to assembly some of the parts, like the table but it will be rewarding enough when you have it all set up. Maintenance will be minimal with the right set too. Usually all it takes is a wipe down with a damp cloth.

Traditional Kitchen Bar Stools will look perfect if you are the country kitchen type. The stools will have arms typically and will swivel a bit. They will be on the heavy side but then you know you've purchased quality that will last a long time. Oak or cherry are the typical woods used. Some will even come with cushions that tie to the chair. You can also think about going retro and have the look of a 1950's diner. Vinyl and polished steel complete this look from long ago. A very popular style, indeed. Modern stools incorporate a combination of wood and metal. These provide an exquisite look for a minimalist look.

Kitchen counter stools can bring out an elegant bistro aesthetic to your kitchen. Most have slender metals arms and are stylish and very modern. Clean up your kitchen with a set of kitchen stools.

Counter Height Dining Table

Most apartments and houses that are small use their dining tables in the kitchen because they don't have a proper dining table. If that's the case with you, or for any other reason you are planning on putting your dining table in your kitchen you must consider all this. Not only should the kitchen dining table be small and light weight so that it could be carried around, but it should also be of the same height and level as the counter.

Counter Height Stools

You might be wondering what's with the height? Why should it be counter height? Why can't it be taller or any shorter? Well, wait till I tell. When you have the table in the kitchen, you will be shifting things from the slabs or the counters to the table very often. Some of these things might also include freshly cooked dishes, which will obviously be very hot. So when the table will be of the same height as the counter, it will be easier for the person working in the kitchen to shift things from the counter to the table and vice versa. See, how useful and important it is to have same level and height tables.

Counter Height Stools

Housewives who work in the kitchen must remember this because the same height dining table will make life much easier for them. It has been shown that when you lift things to a greater height or a lower one too, your muscles pull and this leads to muscle pains and back pains at times. Small things like getting the same height table can avoid much bigger issues later so why not gain a little extra information and be well prepared to make the right purchase.

Office Furniture Essentials

Getting the right furniture for your office at the right price is an important challenge for you and your office manager. Furnishings for your office contribute significantly to the workplace atmosphere generated for your employees and visiting clients - vital if you want to create a good impression and foster good working practices.

Counter Height Stools

The right office furnishings are also essential to meet health and safety standards and for creating a workspace that has a good sense of flow and order to it. The category of "office furnishings" can cover everything from chairs and desks to cupboards and filing cabinets. Office furniture also encompasses those all important areas of reception and conference or meeting rooms - your most vital spaces when it comes to creating a good impression for your clients and associates.

Counter Height Stools

If your workplace is of any considerable size, then you will also have a café, bistro or rest room for employees. In a space such as this, you are looking for a well-priced, comfortable range of furniture that compliments the rest of your office design, while also standing slightly apart from it in look and feel. Office managers, company directors and anyone else interested in looking for great quality, well-priced office furniture will be pleased to know that ABT offers an excellent selection available to view and buy online.

The essential piece of office furniture - and often the hardest to get right - is the office chair. ABT offer 44 different types of office chair - from the luxury ergonomic range of the spectrum down to a simple, value-for-money, folding chair for occasional use in conferences and meetings.

The glider chair is stocked in range of colours - with many other fabric colours available to order - and represents a stylish, portable, folding solution to your seating needs. All glider chairs come with light, silver legs and are fitted on wheels. They can be folded neatly together when not in use and have been designed to come with or without arms, depending on your preference.

Ergonomic chairs are ideal for your employees' workstations, providing lumbar support to varying degrees, depending on the design of the chair, and coming with a range of physical requirements in mind. When you are sitting at your desk all day, it is essential to have good posture support from your chair. ABT offer a range of chairs with this facility, including the Medium Back PCB Chair, with adjustable height and back tile, a five-wheeled base and available with or without arms. The High Back PCB Chair offers extended lumbar support and both chairs come in a selection of stocked fabrics, with a wider selection of colours available to order from ABT.

Executive chairs are, of course, the ultimate in office luxury and the Aegean Leather Chair from ABT is a fine example of this. A high level of design thought has gone into the chair, making it the ultimate in executive comfort. It has a low, waterfall-style seat, meaning no unnecessary pressure is applied to the underside of the leg, which can restrict blood flow. The shaped backrest is fully adjustable and the chair also comes with a seat slide - for different thigh lengths - a gas pump capable of bearing up to 25 stone in weight and a lumbar pump.

Office desks serve a range of functions in your workplace and ABT offer a full range of solutions for all your desk needs at great prices. Whether you need a computer desk, a writing desk, desks for a meeting room, executive desks, or a range of desks that slot together for an open-plan office environment that flows, there is something to suit at the right price.

Bench-desking is a great option when you need to seat banks of your employees closely together, while still giving each person their own space and offering a modern design solution. Bench-desks enable you to seat people in rows, facing each other, which is great for easy communication across the office space. The bench desks available from ABT all have wire-managed legs and troughs for easy workstation set-up, as well as desk screens and ten colour options. The bench-desking range also complies with European standards.

The Adapta Radial desk range from ABT follows the latest and most stylish trends for office layout and design, seating up to four people around an ergonomically-designed cross shape. This layout is great for open-plan working, while also giving each individual a clearly-defined and private work space. Screens are available in this range and the desks themselves come in eight modern colour options.

The Adapta Boardroom range from ABT is a flexible desk range for meetings and conferences. The range comes in three shapes - square, rectangular and circular - and eight different colour finishes and will give a contemporary design feel to your boardroom or meeting room space. Good storage is essential for a well-maintained and organized workplace. ABT offer many different storage solutions and ranges to suit every office need, designed to help your employees with their day-to-day work and helping to maintain a pleasant office environment.

Traditional filing cabinets are still an important part of the office space and help us to keep a range of documents securely filed and organized while remaining easily accessible. ABT's metal filing cabinets are sleek, modern and conform to the required health and safety standards. They are available in three stylish colours - goose grey, black and coffee & cream - and come with a two, three or four-drawer option.

The Aqua Storage range from ABT is the perfect storage option for a modern office, as it is well-designed in a contemporary finish. Full-door and half-door cupboards are available in this range, with different open-shelf options and the cupboards are made from textured aluminum, with doors available in a textured aluminum, pear, or maple finish. The cupboards are designed with modern A4 filing in mind and shelving is available separately, so you can really customize each cupboard for your individual storage needs.

Do you have a large amount of sensitive or important material that requires mass, on-site storage? Take a look at the InnerSpace high-density storage system, available from ABT. This system makes the best possible use of your storage floor space, comes made to your specification and has been designed to be easy to order and install. Options are available on the height, bay width and shelf depth of your InnerSpace system and you can even move the system if you need to, as it has been designed to require no fixing to floors or walls, despite the amount of material it is capable of holding.

Are you looking for bistro tables and chairs? If you have a café or informal rest area for your staff, ABT offer a chic, modern range of furnishings to suit all budgets and requirements. Creating a dedicated area for your employees to meet informally, eat lunch or take a relaxing break will encourage them to feel valued by their employer and make their downtime more relaxing, which will, in turn, lead to greater productivity in the workplace.

ABT offer stylish rectangular, laminate bistro tables, available in cream, white and beech, and fitted with sleek chrome legs. These tables will create a modern classic feel in any bistro area and their size is perfect for several staff to share together at once, encouraging interaction among your employees. Small, round bistro tables are also available from ABT. These tables are available in striking black and white and are ideal for two people to sit at together. These bistro tables will help to create an informal, coffee-shop feel to a space and are also a good location for informal one-to-one work meetings and catch-ups.

Three great bistro seating options are available from ABT at value-for-money prices. For versatility with style, stackable chairs can be moved and stored easily to create more space when required. These chairs are constructed of polyfibre with chrome legs and can be ordered in a cream, burgundy or blue finish.

The wooden bistro seat from ABT comes in a beech finish with chrome legs and is a stylish, more robust and permanent seating solution for your bistro area. Finally, the Pear bistro chair has an ergonomic pear-shape and offers comfort while also having a contemporary look. The chair seat and back is made of polyfibre, with chrome legs and the Pear is available from ABT in the striking colour options of yellow, red, blue, black and green. Your reception furniture serves an essential function - creating the first impression of your workplace to potential and current clients. ABT can offer a range of reception furniture to cater to your individual needs with a selection of designs and finishes.

The Craft Reception Counter is a beautiful, curved reception desk with a solid appearance made of individually cut wood - with a choice of light oak or steamed beech. The Xec Reception Counter offers a long, rounded salon reception design and is available to your bespoke requirements with a vast range of wood glass and metal finishes available.

The Contract Reception Counter is great for smaller, less formal reception areas, with great storage options available within the counter design. Curved and rectangular floor-standing units are available and the counter is fitted with handy cable management ports and a silver kick-strip along its base. The Contract Reception Counter comes in beech, oak and pear finishing options.

ABT also offers a range of seating for your clients and guests, including the Arch seating range, which can be ordered in leather and mock leather and is available as a chair, double sofa or triple sofa. Other seating options available from ABT include tub chairs in a range of fabrics, the modern Serpent range of seating with matching coffee table - also available in a range of fabrics - and a traditional, wood-framed seating range, as a chair or armchair, with matching table available.

Looking for conference furniture? The right conference furniture can create a great impression of your business among your workforce, as well as impressing all-important current and future clients. A range of conference furniture is available from ABT to suit the individual requirements of your business and the range also represents great value for money.

ABT offers a choice of nine different collections of conference furniture. The Zaz! range features a system of impressive, interlocking glass-top tables, with a choice of blue or white glass finishes - the white and blue can look great together to create contrast when interlocking the table system. The Zaz! range also comes with a laminate veneer of cherry, grey, maple or blue for those looking for a different design option.

The director range is both classic and very modern and has a real luxury design feel to it. The tables are available in a range of well-designed shapes and feature a wood veneer with solid wood edging - the veneer is available in cherry, beech or wenga.

The Craft range is manufactured in the UK and has a large number of options, including a wide selection of table shapes and sizes and even a cupboard featuring an 800-watt fridge - to keep conference refreshments cool. The Craft range is a great option for furnishing large, functional conference spaces while still maintaining a modern, corporate look in any space.

Other conference furniture ranges available from ABT include the Aqua range - a boardroom-style table with different options - and the S Series, which is a great option for smaller conference and meeting rooms. ABT also offers a range of more functional conference room furniture for those on a budget, as well as a range that is well suited to any rooms used for training purposes.

Back Pain During Pregnancy - Understand The Cause And Get Rid Of The Pain

In 2007, The Back Pain Foundation asked women what their most important questions were about back pain during pregnancy. Below are the most frequent questions that women asked:

Counter Height Stools

1. How bad will back pain be during pregnancy?

Counter Height Stools

2. Why do I get pain in my back?

3. How can I stop the pain and make myself more comfortable?

4. Why do I get back pain during pregnancy?

Let's take a few minutes and discuss some of those concerns. First, we need to be very clear that not all women get back pain during their pregnancy. You may go through your entire pregnancy without getting any back pain. In addition, many women will get slight symptoms that they describe as a slight discomfort, ache or tightness but not pain.

What causes back pain in pregnancy?

As far as the cause or "why" someone might get pain during pregnancy, every woman's circumstances are different. Keep in mind that your body is undergoing many types of changes and stresses during pregnancy. You are gaining weight and the weight is pushing and pulling on your body in new ways, especially throughout your spine, pelvis and rib cage. This area is sometimes referred to as the "core" of your body.

Your core is the primary weight-bearing center of your body and also that which is most important for movement. And as your core movement changes during pregnancy, muscles can become stressed and overworked. Also your legs tend to be farther apart to help you carry the weight of you baby, so your center of gravity is different and your walking is different - creating more stress on your body. The new weight that you are carrying can also compress the vertebrae in your spine. Some women will experience these various stresses as pain or discomfort. All in all, your body has some good reasons to feel "cranky" and give you some pain. So the question becomes, what do to find some relief?

Pregnancy Back Pain Relief: Tips and Tricks to Eliminate The Pain During Pregnancy

To help reduce or stop pain in your back during pregnancy, rest whenever you need to...but not too much. One of the common myths about back pain is that you need "bed rest." This is not true. Research studies have demonstrated that too much bed rest is bad for your back. When you are pregnant you should take frequent rests, sitting and taking short naps whenever you need to. But do not spend too much time in bed; it will actually make your back pain worse.

When you do sleep, explore some new sleeping positions. For instance, try sleeping on your side if your normally sleep on your back (or vice versa). Keep one or both knees bent, as if in a fetal position. You may want to place a pillow or rolled up towel between your knees or under your stomach. The key is to experiment until you find the right position for your comfort.

Check with your doctor to see if he or she will approve light exercise. Remember what we said earlier about the stresses and strain of carrying new weight? Light exercise will help relieve that strain and stress. Swimming, and walking around the block or on a treadmill are potential ways of exercising and relieving your back pain and stress.

Get a "treatment." Are you the type of person that needs an excuse to get a massage? Now you have an excuse. Take advantage of it! Find a massage therapist that has training in prenatal massage. Feldenkrais is gentle bodywork that can also be extremely useful. A Feldenkrais practitioner can help you change the dynamics of your movement so that the pain goes away and you can move easier. And of course, you can take a nice warm bath, massage yourself or ask someone close to you to rub your back. A little TLC can go a long way.

Pay attention to how you move. Have you adjusted to your new body dynamics and weight? Do you have a stool or pillow to put under your feet to take the pressure off your lower back? Have your lowered your office chair to a more comfortable height? Are you sitting down whenever you need to? In other words, slow down, pay attention to how you are moving, and make adjustments. This is a difficult one, because we rarely pay attention to how we move. But you can learn to do it. Next time you make a movement, take a moment before you do and think it through in your mind. Visualize. Can you move in an easier pain free way?

In short, take care of yourself during pregnancy. Get plenty of rest, light exercise, warm baths and perhaps a massage or feldenkrais session and you will be fine. If you do get extremely bad back pain that lasts for more than a few days see your doctor or other health care provider. Most doctors are Ok with pregnant women taking an over the counter painkiller such as aspirin or ibuprofen but it is best to consult your provider first.

Choosing the Ideal Kitchen Bar Stools

You need different kinds of furniture for different reasons in your home. Some of them may be used daily while others are used from time to time. Kitchen bar stools are a part of the furniture that is used on a daily basis.

Counter Height Stools

Bar stools are available in a wide variety in terms of colors, fabrics and designs. Shops are full of numerous types of stools that can be casual and formal. It is very important to ensure that the design fits into the overall design of your kitchen before choosing a bar stool.

Counter Height Stools

These days there are many kitchens that have a kind of bar that offers a space for kids to have snacks while not actually in the kitchen. This useful feature design has been very well used by many families but they are simply useless without kitchen bar stools.

To choose the right stool it is very important to take a good look in the kitchen style and decide what material you want. Metal and wood are two main options, although you can often choose plastic as well. Metal will stand longer, so it is well suited for families with children.

Once the material has been selected, you need to look at the style. You want something that will be similar to the design bar. If it is a country style, you can look at a country-style stool as well. The idea here is to really make them fit right plus make the kitchen a place where people are invited to stay.

There are plenty of stools that come without a back but if you have kids then the best option would be to buy stools with back. Little children tend to lose their balance easily and back on stools can prevent a bad fall, the same thing works for elder people or drunken friends.

The height will depend on the kitchen bar. Essentially, you want something that gives you a comfortable space for the legs under the table, and that works fine for eating, not forcing you to hunch. Sit on the kitchen table and measure the length of the legs to the table to get a good idea of how much space you need.

Kitchen bar stools are a great addition to any kitchen and can change it from a secluded spot to an area that invites people to chat with the chef. This is a great opportunity for socializing, especially during cooking, when the cook should be in the kitchen, and he wants to talk and socialize with his friends.

Kitchen Design - Is There a New Kitchen in Your Future? Take the First Steps to Success - Planning

INTRODUCTION

Counter Height Stools

Many of my clients have, unfortunately, initiated the design of their kitchen without an understanding of the extent of what is actually involved in the process, in terms of design, budget, timeline and other issues. In these cases, our design process together, was frustrating for the client and for me. As a result, this article will clarify the process so that you will have the opportunity to become better informed before you begin your kitchen project, thereby avoiding uninformed decisions or possibly spending time and/or money needlessly.

Counter Height Stools

This article is not about the specific design features of your kitchen and how to design it. There are many good resources available for that. Instead, it is about the process of designing your kitchen. It is meant to help in getting a head start and to expose anyone who is, or might be, embarking upon the design of a new or remodeled kitchen, to the first and most important step - Planning.

Designing a kitchen for a new or existing home is a big investment in time, money and energy and it is sometimes stressful and challenging. Unfortunately, some vendors and TV programs don't like to dwell on this aspect and therefore mislead the consumer regarding the actual amount of time and effort that is required. Even though creating a new kitchen is challenging, most clients say that the results are more than worth the effort. I hope that the information provided herein will be a helpful contribution toward having you well on your way to a successful project.

Before you begin the process of designing your new kitchen, you will need to set the criteria for the design. I recommend that you engage a professional kitchen designer that not only designs the cabinet layout, but designs every element of the kitchen and is involved throughout the entire project, so that the final result will be a cohesive design that reflects optimum function and style. The designer will not only help you create a beautiful, efficient, kitchen but will save you significant time and money and you will both have fun developing your joint creation. I trust that what follows will get your energy flowing and thoughts racing, in preparation for actually embarking upon your journey. And, it "is" a journey!

THE KITCHEN OF TODAY

The kitchen has traditionally been the most important room in the house because cooking and sharing food has long been central to family life. Meals will always be important, but cooking has, in some cases, significantly changed. The grocery industry has focused on replacements for home meals and hundreds of restaurants have incorporated "to-go" in their business model. Whether we cook frequently or not, kitchens remain the foundation of family life because it is where we live and gather. It is where most of us start and end our days and share the information of our day.

Today's kitchens serve more roles than ever before: entertainment center, home office, cooking and dining space. The electronics for an entertainment center may include TV, music and internet connection and the office area may have a desk, files, computer and bookshelves.

THE FIRST STEPS

Determine with your family, who uses your current kitchen and how, and discuss the conveniences you would like to have in the new version. Make a scrapbook of articles and notes on kitchens and kitchen features that interest you and photographs of kitchens you like. Evaluate how and when you cook, where you serve meals to whom and how often you entertain and how you entertain. Inventory your dishes, silverware, serving pieces, cookware, linens, and your typical grocery storage requirements so that you can be sure that the new design accommodates everything.

It seems that no matter how much time you budget for a remodeling project, it usually takes longer than you expected. For a complete remodel, the down time during construction can be at least two or three months and much longer, depending upon the size and extent of the project. Your family needs to eat in the meantime. So, before construction starts make arrangements to store, heat and clean up, enough to keep you going until the kitchen is back on-line. Many of my clients who have had the good fortune to have a bar sink in the family room, have moved in the old refrigerator and microwave near the bar sink and this combination becomes the interim kitchen during construction of the new one. The upside to this is that it provides a great rationale for eating out more often!

THE KITCHEN FOOTPRINT

Let's start with the space you have available for the kitchen. Whether you are designing for a new home, or remodeling in an existing one, you are limited by how much space you have available in which to create your dream. If the space is fairly small, you will want to consider whether or not you have the option of expanding. You may be able to accomplish this in your existing home and, in a new home, very often you still have time to alter the architectural plan, if needed. In either case, if you can eliminate or relocate a wall or walls or add to the house to create more space for the kitchen, it will improve the function and value of the room significantly.

Of course, if you don't create an addition to the house, and just remove or relocate a wall(s), you then have infringed upon a contiguous space and decreased its size, so you have to weigh which option is the best for you. Is it worth giving up the other space to increase the size of the kitchen? In my experience, if you can do without the adjoining space, it is much better to devote that extra space to the kitchen.

When you plan to remove or relocate a wall(s), the key factor to determine is, by so doing, will you encounter a load-bearing situation? This occurs when the wall(s) is part of the support system for the structure of the house. Usually a contractor can determine this. If the contractor is uncertain, you will need to have a structural engineer examine the structure to make that determination. If it is non load-bearing, when you are ready to start construction, the contractor can proceed to build out the space per the new plan. If it is a load-bearing issue, your local building authority will require that you retain a structural engineer or an architect to design a structural solution for removing or relocating the wall(s).

He or she will submit design drawings and calculations of the solution, to the building authority for approval and permit. Upon receiving the permit, when you are ready to begin construction, the contractor can then proceed to build-out the structure per the engineer's or architect's specifications. This is the process in California, based upon the state building standards, Title 24. The process in the other states is very similar.

In any case, once you have made the decision of whether or not to expand or re-configure, you will know the size and shape (footprint) of the space that you have available from a horizontal standpoint - Plan View.

VERTICAL SPACE

You should also consider what size and shape the room will be from a vertical standpoint as well. If it is possible to increase the height of the room by raising, eliminating or altering an existing low ceiling or soffit, you should seriously consider taking advantage of this option. The additional height will provide more cabinet storage from the increased height of wall cabinets and the room will become more voluminous which is always more visually impressive and comfortable. From a construction standpoint, the load-bearing issues will apply to increasing the room height just as it applies to moving or eliminating walls.

Of course, in dealing with all of these design and construction issues and decisions that need to be made, you will not be alone. Your designer will be the pivotal person who will help you evaluate the choices you have available. He or she will produce drawings in order to visually demonstrate these options and will offer advice on which options are best and why.

I understand that this all sounds very tedious and problematic. In some sense these two words are a good description of the design/construction process. However, what I have outlined above is done thousands of times every day and most of those homeowners have survived and, as a result, now have the new, beautiful, functional, kitchen of their dreams. You notice I said "most"! Seriously, the project will be challenging and there will be some problems. This is just the nature of design and construction and that is why you should not proceed without experienced professional help throughout the process from the very beginning to the end.

UTILIZING YOUR KITCHEN

Are you an expert chef, who does it all: cooking, baking, barbecuing, or are you a minimal cook whose main goal is to just get a meal on the table for the family as expeditiously as possible, or are you somewhere in between? Do you always cook by yourself or do you often have family and friends help with the cooking? Do you often entertain and all flow into the kitchen while munching on your Brie between sips of chardonnay? Do you bake often and want a marble surface for that purpose? The questions can go on and on.

Some clients have large, prestigious, homes and entertain frequently and/or have large families. They may have someone do the cooking for them. Some of these types of projects may need the full treatment, such as a butler's pantry or walk-in pantry, two islands, two refrigerators, two dishwashers, two microwave ovens, a wine cooler, a separate beverage cooler, a built-in espresso machine, sink, prep-sink and bar sink and glass-door cabinets to display the family heirloom china, etc.

Most clients require something substantially less than all of this, but I bring it up just to emphasize that how you utilize your kitchen has a strong influence on the design and therefore, as I mentioned, you should think about how you want to operate and what you want to accommodate in your kitchen. You can start to think about what type of appliances and features you would like. Think of the three major work areas of a kitchen: Food Prep (refrigerator and sink), Cooking (cook top, oven and microwave) and Cleanup (sink, dishwasher and recycling). You will find a myriad of styles and options available which you and your designer will need to carefully consider. More planning, of course!

HOW & WHERE YOU WILL EAT

You may prefer to be able to eat in the kitchen by having an island with seating. The size of the island that the room will accommodate will determine how many persons you can seat. Seating at an island reduces the storage space available in the island, so the balance of the kitchen storage will need to absorb this loss. You can basically sit at three counter heights: chair height (29-30"), counter height (36") and bar height (42").

If you have an adjacent breakfast room, you may want to eat there in the interest of having more storage space in the island. If the room will accommodate it, you may like the idea of a built-in booth in the breakfast room or kitchen, in lieu of a typical table and chairs. Many clients like to have the option of eating in both the breakfast room and at the island in the kitchen. In some cases there is no breakfast room and the dining room serves as both breakfast room and dining room. In any case, you should give these and other possibilities careful consideration.

THE DESIGN STYLE

There are many design motifs available to you: Traditional, Modern, Contemporary, Country, Craftsman, Cape Cod, etc. The design motif that you select will obviously heavily influence the selection of all of the other elements in the kitchen. The cabinet style and finish have the strongest influence on the design style of the kitchen. As I mentioned, you can start by collecting magazine photos of kitchens to get a feel for what you do and don't like. They will give you great ideas for all things kitchen. Stock, semi-custom or custom cabinets have many different styles and finishes to offer and of course, custom cabinets can provide any design and finish.

REMAINING ISSUES

The planning process will continue until every aspect of the total kitchen design is selected and specified. However, once you have established your footprint and vertical space, how you want to utilize your kitchen, how and where you want to eat, and your design motif, you are more than half way there. The planning process continues, on a smaller scale, as you are making more decisions about all of the items and issues that make up a total kitchen design.

Examples: Do you often make spaghetti and pasta, which requires filling a large pot with about four to six quarts of water? If so, you should have a pot-filler over the cook top or range top. Since there are only two of you and it takes a long time to fill up the dishwasher before you can wash the dishes, you should consider a two drawer dishwasher which enables you to wash one drawer at a time, thereby saving energy and providing you with clean dishes more often. Do you prefer an air switch in the countertop for the disposal or do you want the switch to be on the backsplash? Do you want a garbage disposal in the prep sink as well as the main sink? Do you want soft close on your cabinet drawers? Do you like the idea of pendant lighting above the island? Do you want a filtered water system? The questions go on and on!

The various categories you will be encountering in designing your new kitchen are as follows. This listing of categories will give you an idea of what is to come. I didn't say it was easy!

APPLIANCES, CABINETS, HARDWARE, FLOORING, PLUMBING, COUNTERTOP, BACKSPLASH, LIGHTING/ELECTRICAL, WALL FINISH, FURNITURE, WINDOW TREATMENTS, ART WORK, ACCESSORIES AND CONSTRUCTION.

CONCLUSION

I trust that by reading this article, you now have an appreciation of how important careful planning is to the successful design of your kitchen. The more thought and quality time you devote to it, the better prepared you will be when you begin with your designer and the process will become easier and more efficient, which everyone involved will greatly appreciate.

Once you have made most of these macro-decisions that I have mentioned, you will be ready to tackle the micro-decisions that are coming next. As you can see by the examples I have mentioned and the listing of categories above, you have a lot more planning to do, but remember you are now over half way there. Be strong and resolute and I am sure that you will get through the entire process virtually unscathed. And, if you are thoughtful, organized and work in the spirit of mutual cooperation, you will probably have some fun too! Remember that not all of this is on your shoulders. Your professional designer will be by your side for the whole trip.

I sincerely hope that you have found this information helpful and I wish you the best of luck on your journey.

Some people and things are heads and shoulders above the competition.

Counter Height Stools

Robert "The Alton Giant" Wadlow would tower above any of today's pro wrestlers or basketball players. At almost nine feet tall, Wadlow is the tallest person in modern history. Then, there's Mount Everest. When measured from sea level, Mount Everest is easily the world's tallest mountain, nearing 9,000 meters in height. How about the world's tallest building? Over 500 meters and 1,600 feet tall, Taiwan's Taipei 101 holds that title. Last but not least, the corny story of Washington State's Don Radda is no tall tale. In 1946, he grew the world's tallest cornstalk at over 31 feet! Though we would probably never need a bar stool as tall as Radda's cornstalk, height matters when shopping for bar stools. In our day-to-day lives, high bar stools help us reach new heights.

Counter Height Stools

Choosing a Bar Stool: A Tall Order
When shopping for high bar stools or any other type of stool for that matter, there are several things to consider. These include the material used for the stools' seat and legs; headrests, armrests, and footrests; and features, such as the ability to swivel or move upward. Furthermore, selecting a bar stool with the right height is of the utmost importance. After all, what's the point in straddling a high bar stool when your legs cannot fit under a table or your head is below a counter?

The Right Height
Finding a bar stool with the ideal height for your home or office needs is not rocket science. Neither is it child's play, however. To determine if you need a high bar stool, follow these simple steps.

1. Measure your table or counter by finding the length from the floor to the table's top. An ideal bar stool will provide between 10 to 12 inches difference between the stool's seat and the tabletop. For instance, a 36" high barstool would be perfect for a 46-48" tabletop.

2. Measure the table's overhang. The overhang includes the distance from the tabletop to the lowest part along the sides of the table, excluding the legs. Tables with wide overhangs may require a particular stool height. At first, a 32" stool may seem ideal for a 42" table. However, if the overhang measures 6", a 30" bar stool may be more comfortable.

So, now you know how to do the math where stools are concerned. You are now ready to choose a bar stool with the height that is ideal for you. Will you need high bar stools? It depends.

A Bar Stool By Any Other Name
One way to classify bar stools is by height. Dining height bar stools are ideal for dining tables, which are about 28"-30" in height. Ideally, you should use a backless bar stool that measures 18". On the other hand, counter height tables have a height of roughly 35"-38". These heights are common in pubs, casual dining environments, and home kitchen islands. Bar stools in the 24"-26" height range would be practical in these situations.

Bar height tables, on the other hand, are generally around 40" to 42" in height. In this case, the high bar stools to pick should be 28" to 30". These are generally used in home bars and setups for counters and pubs. Last but greatest in height are the extra-tall or "spectator" height bar stools. High bar stools for this setup range from about 32" to 34" in height. They are used to complement bars and extra-tall tables that are 45" to 48" tall. These bar stools are a wonderful addition to joints such as home bars, pool halls, bowling alleys, and restaurants.

While you will probably never spot high bar stools in the Guinness Book of World Records, their height will be just right for your bar stool needs.

Spinal Health - Herniated Or Ruptured Disk

Discs are positioned between each vertebra bone in your spine. A disc is made up of two parts: the outer ring is called the annulus; the inner part is called the nucleus. The annulus is hard and fibrous, while the inner nucleus is made up of soft gelatinous material. These discs allow for easy mobility of the backbone as we move and bend, and act as cushions between the vertebral column.

Counter Height Stools

The effects of frequent excessive pressure on your back can cause the discs in your spinal column to rupture or be herniated. Ordinary aging will decrease the height and the softness of the disc, so they will become less effective as shock absorbers. A ruptured or herniated disc happens when pressure causes the nucleus to push against the annulus to the degree that the annulus rips. The majority of herniated discs will rupture toward the spine, causing pain, pressure and irritation on the nerves.

Counter Height Stools

If the rupture is bad enough to cause irritation, you will often times have pain shooting down the leg, following the course of the nerve. You may also experience numbness, weakness or tingling in the leg. More severe cases can involve pain in both legs and loss of bladder or bowel control. If those symptoms occur, a doctor should treat the problem immediately.

Most of the time, a ruptured or herniated disc can get better without surgery. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs (also known as NSAIDS) such as Advil or Aleve can relieve the pressure and alleviate the pain after a few days. If, after a few days, the NSAID is not mitigating the pain, the next step may be prescription medicine such as higher strength NSAIDS, pain medication, steroids or muscle relaxers.

If the stronger medication is also not effective, you'll need further testing in the form of a MRI or CT scan. The results of these tests can establish if you will need an epidural injection of Cortisone. The injection is into your back, around the root of the nerve being pinched.

If none of these treatments help, a microdiscectomy may be needed. A microdiscectomy is a surgical procedure that is done trough a small incision. Using magnification and special instruments, the surgeon can remove the portion of the disc that is ruptured and causing discomfort. A microdiscectomy is less invasive than a traditional lumbar laminectomy, usually being performed with epidural anesthesia so the patient can stay awake during the procedure. The likelihood of vomiting or nausea after a microdiscectomy is decreased, and patients can usually go home a few hours after surgery.

After your symptoms subside, start an exercise or walking program to rehabilitate and strengthen your back to significantly reduce the chances of a slipped disc or pinched nerve from happening again. If you are overweight, losing the extra pounds can remove the excess pressure on your back. Practice safe lifting techniques with proper back mechanics when moving heavy objects.

Breakfast Nook Seating Options

Where do you sit for your morning coffee, meals, and general socializing? Most likely, your kitchen or breakfast nook is the answer. So it is important to discuss the different types of seating arrangements available for your breakfast nook. Typically you have three basic types of seating choices: chairs, stools or benches. I have my preferences, but every room and every family is different. You can make your choice based on these pros and cons.

Counter Height Stools

Chairs are, of course, the most traditional choice. The pros of this option would be that chairs give every occupant their personal space and have almost endless varieties of looks. You can make sure that your elbows don't touch and you don't have to be too close to anyone if you all have your own chair. Chairs are available in materials such as wood, painted wood, various metals, wicker, and plastic. You can purchase chairs in any price range and in a variety of styles. The con of choosing chairs for your breakfast nook is that you might not be able to seat as many people in the same space as you could with benches.

Counter Height Stools

The second choice for seating in your breakfast nook is stools. I don't think this is a great choice, because most of the time the table you have in your breakfast nook area is of medium height. Stools look and work better with a high table or counter. Also, stools are uncomfortable for children who are very likely to fall off and for larger or heavier people. Someone of more substantial girth would feel more comfortable in a chair or on a bench. However, if you have a very limited space and only one or two people in your family then a small cafe like table with stools might look great and won't take up much room.

The third choice for your breakfast nook seating is my personal favorite: benches. Benches usually allow for the most people to fit at your table and have the added bonus of not taking up much room when no one is sitting on them. Also, benches can be equipped with storage under the seats which is great for storing your children's art supplies or small appliances that take up counter space in your kitchen but are not used very often like a slow cooker or bread maker. Another thing that is commonly stored under the breakfast nook bench is linens. The con of using benches is that you typically have less personal space while sitting. Benches require a certain amount of intimacy which might be fine when it is just you and your family, but could be uncomfortable for guests.

Kitchen Bar Stools - 3 Great Benefits

There is a revolution going on in kitchens all over the world and the kitchen bar stool is taking over. No longer are people satisfied with old and tired looking chairs monopolising the little space they have.

Counter Height Stools

With more people than ever opting for spacious, contemporary and modern kitchen designs the bar stool has seen a surge in popularity. Hardly surprising either when you consider all of the advantages the bar stool has over standard kitchen seating furniture. Here are three of those advantages.

Counter Height Stools

Let's start with the one I've already mentioned - space. Kitchen bar stools are remarkable space savers. If you're planning a small kitchen design and are trying to cram as much as possible into the space then bar stools are an extremely viable option. Instead of a big table and surrounding chairs how about a breakfast bar and a few stools? This is much more modern and functional and the perfect solution for small kitchens.

Secondly, bar stools suit every kind of kitchen whether you have a large family or are trendy bachelors living in the city. Kids love the casual nature of them and they're equally popular at parties where people can rest from the socialising without missing out on the sparkling conversation. The versatility of the bar stool is pretty astounding.

Finally, kitchen bar stools [http://www.kitchendesignsite.com/category/bar-stools] are fully customisable. Whether you want standard wooden stools or something more unique with padding or a specific material, no problem. You can also get stools that fold away for easy storage.

These are just three reasons to consider bar stools in your kitchen design and if you're not already convinced then what's the matter with you.

How to Adjust the Reclining Tension on a Lazy Boy Recliner

The tension adjustment on a Lazy Boy Recliner allows you to set the tension on the reclining mechanism to best respond to your individual size and strength. If you find it difficult to push back or pull the lever into a reclining position then you may want to reduce the tension. If you are a taller or heavier person then you may want to increase the reclining mechanism tension.

Counter Height Stools

Most lazy boy recliners are equipped with a pair of wing nuts or thumb wheels underneath the seat that let you adjust the reclining mechanism tension. First make sure that the leg rest is closed, then tilt the chair forward so it rests on the tips of its arms and the top of its back so you can see underneath the chair.

Counter Height Stools

On the Reclina-Rocker chair, Reclina-Glider chair and Reclina-Way chair you should see two wing nuts (one on each side) towards the back of the recliner under the seat. The Reclina-Glider Swivel Recliner has two thumb wheels instead of wing nuts but they can be adjusted in the same manner.

On the Lazy Boy Classics Low Profile and High Leg recliner with 3-position mechanism you should see the two wing nuts (one on each side) toward the center of the recliner under the seat.

It is important to adjust both sides equally and to just make small adjustments (about one quarter of a turn) until you feel comfortable. To increase the reclining tension turn the wing nuts or thumb wheels clockwise one quarter turn on both sides. To decrease the tension turn the wing nuts or thumb wheels counter-clockwise one quarter turn on both sides. Return the chair to its upright position and test the new setting. Repeat the steps listed here if more adjustment is required.

Never tighten or loosen the adjustment wing nuts or thumb wheels all the way or you may damage the tension spring. The spring should not move on the bolt after making the adjustments. If it does, make sure you turn the wing nut or thumb wheel clockwise a minimum of one half turn after tightening it so the spring no longer moves. Nor should the spring be completely compressed after making your adjustments. If this occurs, loosen the wing nuts or thumb wheels a minimum of one half a turn counter-clockwise to avoid damaging the tension spring.

Remember to always adjust both wing nuts or thumb wheels equally.

Dining Table and Chairs Set

Formal dining rooms, kitchen dinettes, breakfast nooks. Your dining needs and the space allocated to them are vastly different from that of your friends and neighbors. Whether you have a starter apartment, a spacious mansion - or, like most of us, something in between - your dining table and chair set is critical to setting the tone and functionality of your home.

Counter Height Stools

For many of us growing up, our family dining table was the center of the household and was used for not just dining, but homework, game night, as a buffet table, or working on crafts. These days it is common to have multiple tables for these activities, but, if your space is limited, the dining table may serve even more purposes. If this is your first time shopping for a dining table and chair set, think about how it will be used when choosing the right set for your house.

Counter Height Stools

Space is not just the final frontier, it's the #1 consideration in planning for a dining table and chair set. The common rule of thumb is that dining tables are roughly 30 inches tall, and chair seats need to be roughly 20 inches from the floor to allow enough lap space. A seat width of approximately 22 inches is a comfortable size for most people. Designers like to allow at least 40 inches around your table and chairs to maneuver around other furniture, but perhaps your dining table and chair set will sit snugly in your space. A perfect solution to this would be a table with extensions or drop leafs, which are great for accommodating large and small gatherings. Remember that smaller tables look great when placed against a wall with a nice framed piece of art on the wall above.

Naturally, the composition of your dining room and its furnishings will dictate how elaborate your dining table and chair set can be. Do you prefer arts & crafts or mission decor? Country, rustic or traditional? Maybe your room has a mix of motifs and you want a simpler style for a smooth visual transition.

Counter-height dining room table sets are becoming a very popular choice. Whether you choose a traditional, classic dining set or bistro-style dining room table, counter-height table sets seem to have an inherent ability to put guests at ease.

There's a reason wood is the most popular choice of material for a dining table and chair set; its naturally beautiful nuances and wide variety of options make wood a classic and durable choice. Glass table tops are easy to clean and dress up or down, and nothing beats the beauty of the reflecting light of a candle on a glass table to set the mood. Stone and marble are attractive and functional choices as table tops for transitional designs and very popular with home chefs.

About seating- There's no sense in spending four hours making a gourmet meal if the seating at your dining table isn't comfortable. If you have the luxury of space, choose dining chairs with arms if you want your guests to get cozy after a meal and share conversation long into the night. Armless chairs are great for seating more people or if your space is limited, dining benches, which are increasing in popularity as shoppers go for a more casual dining experience and when families need to accommodate small children who like to move around a lot. Cushions go a long way to creating a mood and adding comfort to your seating arrangement. Color and pattern options online are almost endless and come in a variety of materials that are easy to clean.

Chairs And Tables To Compliment Your Deck

You've built the garden deck or patio of your dreams, you've weather-proofed it and are planning an inaugural grand-deck opening party, but first you need to find furniture that befits your architectural masterpiece. Deck furniture comes in many guises, from the simple, yet traditional deck chair to more sophisticated bars and stools. How you choose to decorate your deck space is largely dependent on what you intend to use it for.

Counter Height Stools

If you built your deck to catch the sun, so that you could enjoy the quiet solitude of your garden, perhaps buried in a good book, you might want to focus on comfort. In which case, deck chairs and chaise lounges will be the order of the day. But your options don't end there. You could get folding deck chairs, standing deck chairs or long deck chairs. You could even invest in some rocking chairs.

Counter Height Stools

Folding deck chairs are traditionally made with durable frames and canvas. They're comfortable, and, as the name suggests, fold up easily for convenient transport and storage. These days you also get folding chairs that are made of plastic; these may be more weather-resistant but can be more bulky than their canvas brethren and aren't quite as flexible during storage.

A popular type of standing deck chair is the Adirondack, which is usually carved out of a single wooden board and cut into eleven pieces. Their broad arms are their distinguishing feature. They are broad enough to serve as tables, and can comfortably hold glasses, mugs, cups and the occasional side plate of snacks. The chair is generally not adjustable like other deck chairs, but the back is set at a slight angle for greater comfort.

Long chairs or chaise lounges are especially evocative of summer holidays and long sunny days. The defining feature of these chairs is their length, which is ample enough to accommodate even the longest of legs.

An alternative to single-seater chairs are benches, or quaint love-seats. These are great for sharing romantic sunsets, or even just to spread out on your own. The important thing to remember when buying a bench is that they're often made of hardy material designed for durability and not comfort. Test out the benches before you make the decision to buy, and keep an eye out for some cushions anyway.

Think carefully before purchasing any tables for your deck space, as your choice can be the difference between homeliness and cluttered. Many outdoor tables are small and compact, and around the height of deck chairs for ease of use. One or two of these can come in handy as people are always looking for space for cups and plates.

If you intend to use your deck as an eating area, however, you may want to consider larger and sturdier table options. Picnic tables are ideal for families who like to entertain outdoors, especially if they come with large umbrellas to shield users from the sun and rain. If you do plan on using an umbrella with your table it's a good idea to look for one that's easy to assemble, take down and store.

Your deck was probably designed with relaxation and comfort in mind; it's only fair that it be furnished in the same way.
